FATHER’S DAY CELEBRATION IN ORANGE COUNTY

On Sunday, June 20, 2004 , immediately after Holy Badarak, and on the occasion of Father’s Day, a picnic was held at the Armenian Center ’s parking space, which was organized by Forty Martyrs Armenian Apostolic Church Pastor, Board of Trustees and the Ladies Auxiliary.

To make this day special for fathers, fun games were organized to keep them happy and busy.  Thirteen fathers participated in the musical chair game, people were chanting to encourage the participants, and after almost an hour of fun and torture, Mr. George Mahroukian was the winner of this game.

The idea of the second game was to find a quarter(using only their mouth) in a bowl full of flour with hands tied to their back.  Three brave fathers participated in this game.  Mr. Garbis Yaghlajian was the lucky winner of this messy game.  Just imagine what their faces looked like after the game was over.

Meanwhile kids were busy playing inside the 5 in 1 combo bouncer, and some were cheering for their dads.  Women were busy cooking, cheering for their husbands and trying to have fun by dancing on the music of Vacco’s DJ and the Davoul-Zourna.

The competition of kouanch and tavlou was on.  Participant were waiting for their turn  to compete in these tense games.  After hours and hours of competition, finally Mr. Zaven Guljian was awarded with a trophy for winning the tavlou competition.  Meanwhile, all men were looking on and cheering the last four participants in the kouanch game.  Mr. Sarkis Der Tavitian and his partner Mr. Barkev Badolian took the first place trophy home.

The Pastor, Board of Trustees and Ladies Auxiliary would like to thank all the volunteer for their dedication and hard work.  A special thanks to Mr. Vartkes Der Tavitian who volunteered his time to entertain us.  A special thanks also to A.R.F. Gomideh for allowing us to use the parking space.

A very touchy and strong sermon was given by Very Rev. Fr. Vrouyr Demirjian.
